Highway 86 Extension Project

Stub out for CSS BuildingCVWD is preparing to begin construction on the Highway 86 Transmission Main Extension Project. This project benefits our communities in important ways:

  • The project improves water supply reliability for 7,400 customers
  • It connects a part of our system to our main distribution system to ensure reliable, quality water for these communities:
    • Salton Sea Beach
    • Desert Shores
    • Salton City
  • Unincorporated Riverside and Imperial County areas
  • It will allow us to connect/consolidate small east valley water systems, which currently have failing systems, to CVWD, allowing them access to safe, clean drinking water

This project involves installation of 35,230 linear feet of 30-inch diameter ductile iron pipe along Harrison Street from Avenue 74 to Avenue 86 as well as installation of a new booster pump station. Phase one of this project was completed on February 12, 2019.  Phase two is underway at this time.

Though this is a domestic water project, canal customers will be impacted by construction. Each irrigation lateral that crosses the new main will be replaced and will have to be shut off for up to three days. We want to work with customers on the schedule to minimize impact and we plan to provide as much notice as possible. We will be engaging with customers throughout this process and we value your input.

Projects like these, while inconvenient, are critical to our ability to maintain our vital resources in the Coachella Valley. They help us to ensure reliable supply and provide high quality drinking water.
